What makes you happy?

I’m moved to ask myself this question on a regular basis. On a good day it can be something as sweet as seeing a flower in bloom. I feel even happier when I can take a picture of it with my iPhone and insert it into a blog! On a not-so-good day it can be harder to achieve or to let the happiness in. Fortunately I’ve learned that I am the one who is in charge of my happiness. And I’m the one who has all control, or choice, over it. I know, sometimes it’s a lot easier to blame someone else when we aren’t happy but the truth of the matter is that it is up to each one of us.

We are here to be happy, that’s the basis of our life. I learned this from Abraham. This is the most important teaching I’ve ever learned, and it’s changed my life. Abraham talks about focusing our thoughts on what we want, not what we don’t want. It sounds easy and I believe it can be. But like anything else, it takes practice.

There are so many moving pieces in today’s life and sometimes it’s hard to manage. But when you keep in mind that you are in the driver’s seat and that you can decide to be happy, it makes it much easier. You’ll find that you actually do feel better and that it becomes a more natural state of being.

So deliberately look for those things that make you happy. Could be a walk in nature, a romp with your dog, a smile you give on purpose. It could be simply deciding that you are going to feel happy and watching to see what happens.

So have fun, play around. Smile more. And enjoy your life!
