What I'm Learning From My Cat
We got a new kitty a little over a month ago. We weren’t going to but we couldn’t help ourselves. We were heartbroken about our 16 year old boy cat’s departure and we were consoling ourselves and his littermate. But things can change quickly and dramatically when a kitty chooses you.
Buddy Boy was meant for us. We went “looking at kitties,” not to bring them home but just to get a kitty fix. Ha ha. The moment I held him we were sunk. He stole our hearts. He was three months old and loved to purr and be cuddled. I looked at Joyce and we both knew he was coming home with us.
The energy in our home has changed dramatically. Not because we have a crazy kitten running around but because he’s so alive. He loves to play and he’s really good at entertaining himself, for a while. He’s very expressive and doesn’t hold back, on anything. He’s very smart and learns quickly. He’s the perfect combination of kitty, lap cat, playmate and something to simply adore.
He’s been such a teacher for me and I imagine that will continue. For now here’s what I’m learning:
Stop working so much and play more. Things will get done without the stress. When you’re tired of playing, stop. Enjoy hanging out. Purr when you’re happy. Show the people you love that you like them a lot. Eat with gusto. Don’t do anything you don’t want to do. Nip gently if you don’t like something. Everything always works out.
He's sitting right behind me now so I'm going to stop writing and pet him for a while before my next client comes. I am so happy that he's with us and that I get to share my life with him.
All is very well.
